Taking your Personal Security Awareness Seriously

When talking about personal security awareness, people often say ‘Aren’t you just being paranoid?’. The answer is a firm ‘No’. If you don’t take charge of your own safety, who will?

Recently I was on a train leaving London after a night out. When I boarded I noticed a young girl, early 20′s, completely out for the count! She was drunk as she almost fell off her seat, then she put a large hood all the way over her head so she could sleep better.

So lets look at this:

Young girl travelling alone late at night on a train. Clearly very drunk, not aware of whats going on around her. If I was a criminal, who would be my target on that train? Whats worse is that not only could she have her property stolen, being in that kind of state could make it easier for a more serious crime to take place.

Your personal security awareness doesn’t mean you are on guard all the time. In this situation it just means that you should know your limits and be aware of what or who is around you.

Remember, there is no such thing as a random attack.

A Lesson In Personal Security Awareness

With everyone now owning some kind of  multimedia device,  how many of us create our own little world when we’re travelling to work? I would say that when in this state of mind our personal security awareness is about zero!

Although the likelihood of something bad happening is slim, are you really  happy taking that risk? Can you feel the person across the carridge looking at your iphone as you select another track? Do we really need to drop our  personal security awareness so much?
